This GORGEOUS oddity is the only known United States PROOF coin of any denomination ever minted with a Thick Planchet! It is also significantly underweight and thus of the wrong metal composition!

Renowned error expert Al Levy discovered this coin himself in a mint-sealed proof set case, as he was always searching for errors. He had wondered why the case was cracked and open at the seems, but upon closer inspection realized that it was because the cent was about 80% too thick, which can easily be seen through its PCGS Edge View holder! Al had never seen or heard about such a Proof Error or Pattern, despite having seen millions of Errors by his own account. The empty ANACS "PR62 RED THICK PLANCHET" holder is included (see its screenshot), along with a copy of the PCGS invoice that proves that the coin was crossed over by PCGS. The item "1991-S PCGS PR62 WRONG METAL Thick Planchet UNIQUE PROOF ERROR Lincoln Cent 1C" is in sale since Tuesday, December 27, 2016.
